BP Refinery - Whiting, IN

Plastics are made of petroleum, which begins with the refining process. This image was taken at the British Petroleum refinery in Whiting, IN. This refinery was originally built by Standard Oil in the 1890s to process the Lima crude coming out of Ohio. It now processes Canadian Tar Sands, some of the dirtiest and most resource intensive crude to refine.
